Campervan trip to The Drowned Valley of Guerledan

Lac de Guerledon in Brittany will be drained this summer for the first time in 30 years revealing the drowned valley that was submerged in 1930 when it was flooded for electricity production and water supply.

At 12km long this magnificent artificial lake is the largest in Brittany and between mid-May and October 2015 you will be able to discover the Nantes-brest canal, the original 17 locks and lock houses that have not been seen for a generation.

The lake is being drained to repair electricity generating turbines and it is likely to be the last time for many years as they intend to make it possible to repair the turbines without draining in future.

This very unusual occurrence is expected to attract more than 2 million visitors to the area with tours, talks and other events being readily available throughout.
