Easter falls early this year (Easter Sunday is 27th March), so it will be upon us very soon! After months of short days, chilly weather and paying for Christmas, Easter is the first opportunity of the year to take a break for many of us.
Spring will be springing and the days getting longer so it’s a lovely time to explore France. Why not plan a pre-summer romantic break, a walking or cycling holiday, a family adventure or think of your own excuse to come and enjoy France? Most tourist attractions and campsites open at Easter too, so there’s plenty to do and lots of options for where to stay. The French are very enthusiastic about Pâques (Easter) and whilst the original reasons for celebrating it may be less obvious these days, the excuse to eat gourmet chocolate is seized with great passion and Easter Egg Hunts break out all over the country, many based in the grounds of stunning Chateaux.
Hunting for Easter eggs
Two huge Easter egg hunts – Chasse aux œufs de Pâques – that children are sure to enjoy, both within a one-hour drive of our depot, are at Chateau de Vaux le Vicomte – a 17th century baroque chateau in Maincy – and at Provins – the medieval city and UNESCO World Heritage Site. While children or ‘big kids’ rush around searching for eggs, the rest of the party can enjoy the historical sights. (Note: The Easter egg hunt at Provins is on the 27 and 28 March, is free, no reservation is needed, and is suitable for children up to 12 years. The Vaux le Vicomte on 26, 27 and 28 March, is a grander affair and a reservation must be made. A family ticket costs €51 – see more details here.)
