Normandy, a great destination for a campervan trip!
The Newman family from Cambridge, UK just returned from a trip to Normandy and raved about it (they took the photos in this blog).
They explored the coast between Omaha Beach and Honfleur and said it was a stunning coastline with lots to see and do. As they were a group of four adults, they decided to stay on campsites each night to make showering easier and said that the general standard of campsite facilities was excellent. Campsite “La Vallee” at Houlgate got a special mention as it offered a lovely view, had a nice pool and was in a quiet area.
One of the highlights of The Newman’s trip was a visit to the Overlord Museum near Omaha Beach (which tells the story of WWII with exhibits ranging from Sherman Tanks to the landing craft used on D-Day).
Honfleur got a special mention as the prettiest town (with the nicest restaurants).
Calvados and Camembert were favourite local products and Houlgate beach was their favourite beach.
The Neman’s went to Normandy for just one week but felt they could have done with a second week to explore all that Normandy has to offer. A few of the FMH Team have explored Normandy too and all felt it well worth taking a couple of weeks to explore this interesting region. The Normandy coast is about a three hour drive from the FMH depot.
