Enjoy some French mulled wine

This time last year we gave you Hannah’s family recipe for Mulled Cider. Everybody really enjoyed it, so this year we thought we’d share our favourite mulled wine recipe to put you in the mood for planning your French motorhome trip. Here it is:

Mulled Wine (serves 6)

• 1 bottle of red wine (preferably French and definitely not too dry or tannic)
• 60 ml of Cointreau or Grand Marnier liqueur
• 1 cinnamon stick
• 5 cloves
• 6 slices of orange
• Sugar to taste

Place all ingredients in a pan and heat until it just starts to simmer very gently.  Turn down to “finger hot” and leave for anything from 15 to 120 minutes (it will wait patiently for all your guests to arrive without spoiling as long as you don’t simmer it).  Serve in heatproof glasses or pre-warm some robust, ordinary glasses to avoid them shattering when you add the hot liquid.

Adapt it: for a less alcoholic version, leave out the liqueur and add 100 ml of orange juice or for an alcohol-free version, replace all the alcohol with 800ml of red grape juice or apple juice and don’t add any sugar.

Needless to say, as with all recipes we publish on our website, you can make this in your campervan kitchen!
