Tour de France 2020 Campervan Itinerary
What might you see on the Tour de France 2020? Well, we thought we would pick a stage, and using our local knowledge, come up with a Tour de France 2020 Campervan Itinerary example.
These are three stages that are in close proximity to each other and only a short drive from our Paris based depot. While you take a break from the Tour, here are some things you might want to visit along the way.
Stage 10 – Île d’Oléron to Île de Ré
Tuesday, July 7, 2020
The small island of ‘Île de Ré’ is a stunning stop on the Tour de France 2020
This stage takes in a stunning coastal region on the west of France, from Île d’Oléron to Île de Ré in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The area boasts almost the same number of hours of sunshine as the southern coast of France so enjoy the weather by exploring the beaches, 19th century lighthouse and maritime fort.
The port town of Saint-Martin-de-Ré has a number of restaurants, shops and cafés
Saint-Martin-de-Ré is the local port town also designated a UNESCO heritage site. There are a range of seafood restaurants with local produce served up in typical french style. The town also has daily markets and plenty of boutique shops to collect a souvenir or two.
Stage 11 – Châtelaillon-Plage to Poitiers.
Wednesday, July 8, 2020
The centre of Poitiers is packed with narrow side streets hiding delightful bars, cafés and restaurants
This stage travels inland from the coastal town of Châtelaillon-Plage to the University city of Poitiers. Historic churches, in particular Romanesque church buildings, are the draw for many visitors. The centre of Poitiers is packed with narrow side streets hiding delightful bars, cafés and restaurants. As well as boutique shops and several modern shopping centres.
Futuroscope is a great family day out
If you are bringing the family on tour and they don’t quite share the same enthusiasm for hours and hours of top-level cycling, then Futuroscope may soothe any grumbling children. The rides aren’t on the same grand scale as large western theme parks but there is a great mix of 4D rides, educational shows and general play areas. Futuroscope provides motorhome parking and servicing so you’ll be able to restock with fresh water and empty wastewater as part of the stop.
Stage 12 – Chauvigny to Sarran Corrèze
Thursday, July 9, 2020
Le Château de Touffou
Stage 12 takes you south-east through the rural countryside of Chauvigny to Sarran Corrèze. The route navigates around three natural parks so there will be plenty of scenery to take in en route. No road trip across France is complete without a Château stop so we recommend dropping by the Château de Touffou. They have a number of reception rooms for visitors but why not have a cocktail and diner ‘al fresco’ on the Château grounds!
Village of Tourenne
The final stop on our Tour de France 2020 campervan itinerary is Sarran Corrèze. The surrounding area is packed with stunning villages like this of Tourenne. After indulging in your Chateau fine dining, now is the time to unmount the bikes from the motorhome rack and get peddling! Many serious riders who hire from us have shipped their own top-end bike over but we also offer bike hire for the mere mortals who want to get around on two wheels at a more leisurely pace.
